When Chamanthie & Dileepa decided to get married in Sri Lanka, they knew they wanted their engagement party to be in New Zealand. Specifically Hamilton, where these two met, fell in love & began built their life together. Lovers of good tea with great friends & great conversation, there was only one spot for this Kiwi-Sri Lankan Fusion Engagement Party; Zealong Tea Plantation in Hamilton.
Joined by friends & family from near & far, Chamanthie & Dileepa organised a relaxed & inclusive engagement party to welcome & introduce people from all parts of their life; family, school & uni friends & their wide & diverse social networks. Heavy on fantastic food & plenty of time for talking, they choose to keep the formalities a small part of the day & wove in some special creative touches.
There were tales from both the Groom & Bride to-be who both delivered interesting personal backstories & versions of their meeting, as well as the some highlights of theirjourney together so far. To complete the speeches they invited a dear & well-respected Hamilton friend to speak on behalf of their Hamilton Whanau. Then it was time for the traditional Sri Lankan lamp lighting ceremony (the couple, along with their families, take turns lighting the oil lamp) before the cutting of the cake.
In place of a guestbook, all present were invited to select from a collection of bright & beautiful postcards to leave a message for the Chamanthie & Dileepa. And the sweet little touches didn't stop there: upon leaving guests were presented with a hand-crafted gift, a cork-stopped glass full of specifically selected tea blend.
Chamanthie & are two stellar humans & serious about extending love & respect in the circles in which they move. Despite the fact it cannot have been easy to organise & engineer a lovely event to include & cater to the wide a diversity of friends & family present, these two did it! And I join the rest of those gathered to wish them all the love in the world.
